Saw this link on Twitter. Totally agree about the positive role for Fathers for daughters. My six year old recently had to fill out a journal about her dad for Father's Day. It was absolutely wonderful. She had to complete the sentence \My Dad is smart. He knows all about...\ she wrote - \being diabetic\ (which she spelled correctly). On another page it read \My Dad is special because...\ and she wrote \he is my dad and he is diabetic like me.\

When she was diagnosed in the hospital at the age of two, the ER doctor made some comment about this being a bond between her and her dad. At the time, my reaction was \you really didn't just say that!\

But I was interested to see it has a special meaning to her since they don't \discuss\ their diabetes - but I think when we try to empathize with the difficulties, it probably means a lot more coming from him.

I ended up having to be out of town next Friday. We were all going to a one day diabetes camp. I think maybe it will be even more special without me there.

Thank you Andy and Jerry. The fact that you read and appreciated this blog tells me that you each had a very special relationship with your dads. And I'm thinking, no coincidence that you are probably both really great dads in your own right. How lucky for your kids! Keep it up and Happy Father's Day!

What a beautiful tribute that brought tears to my eyes. I only wish my father had seen me married, have children and grandchildren.

Thank you for a beautiful tribute to your father who would have been extremely proud of you.

What an amazing post Annie - especially this time of year my thoughts always take me back to my Father (who's been gone almost 17 years) and how I would have loved to have introduced him to our triplets (or otherwise affectionately known as the "Trips").

He would have gotten a kick out of how each one of them embodies one of his characteristics even at 2 years old and it is always heartening to experience that as I know he's here in spirit. So here's wishing all the Dad's reading your blog a great Father's Day. All the best...Andy
